PERSONAL NOTES
Owns five PGA Tour victories, the last coming at 1998 Buick Open. That same year, Mayfair handed Tiger Woods his only playoff defeat, beating him at the Nissan Open at Valencia (Calif.) C.C.Enjoyed a stellar amateur career that included winning the 1986 U.S. Amateur Public Links and 1987 U.S. Amateur, becoming the first player to win both titles. That feat has since been achieved by Ryan Moore and Colt Knost.
Won the 1987 Fred Haskins Award as the nation’s top collegiate player.
Volunteered as a standard bearer at the Phoenix Open while in high school.
In 1998 was inducted into the Arizona State University Hall of Fame.
Member of the 1987 USA Walker Cup team.
Overcame testicular cancer during the 2006 season. Returned two weeks after surgery to compete in PGA Championship, where he finished T-37.
Earned $1.75 million in 2008 and finished No. 23 on the FedEx Cup points list, despite no victories.
